A sad reality of the world we live in today is that there are still many types of slavery making a profit out there. Not all slavery works the way we think of it, like American slavery of the past. It’s a lot more subtle these days, and the worst of it is child trafficking.
Modern slavery uses the internet and lots of other modern inventions to help it stay in the shadows. We don’t talk about it as much, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist there doing its dirty work.
Almost 150 children were saved from human trafficking just in the last 18 months, and that is not nearly enough. They were trafficked into Wales from ages 2 to 17 for sexual exploitation. Yes, that means these children were being sold for sex.
Most of these children were girls, and often they were tricked into going along with it at first. It is all too common to promise young girls a job or a chance to get out of their country only to trick them into prostitution and abuse them instead.
These children are not only sexually and physically abused they are forced to work constantly, be it at a labor job or a sexual one. They are given no breaks and no time off and are forced to perform sex acts on command.
Wales is one of quite a few countries that are beginning to crack down on human trafficking through their borders. No child should have to suffer from this, and no one should benefit from their abuse.
They were educating people more and more on how to recognize slavery. This is in part because criminals were a bit more obvious about their enterprise. They would offer up the children to work other jobs for basically nothing.
This is a good way to realize that something isn’t right and to speak up to authorities. Pimps will get the kids to do menial labor for a pittance, and that is a red flag right there. If something seems too good to be true, then it probably is for somebody.
There are many new communities out there committed to helping children who have suffered from human trafficking. They help them get on their feet, give them jobs, and teach them important life skills.
Human trafficking and child slavery are no longer going to be overlooked.
